Deepfake & Media Authenticity Screening
Check a photo, video or recording for signs of AI generation or editing before you rely on it.
AI can now produce photos, videos and voice recordings that look and sound real. Michael Hebert Investigations screens media for signs of AI generation or editing, so attorneys, insurance adjusters, businesses and individuals can make a better-informed decision about next steps.
What we check
- Metadata review of the file's creation date, device and editing software
- Content credentials (C2PA), an emerging standard that some AI tools, cameras and editing apps attach to files. Most files don't carry them, and a missing credential doesn't mean a file is fake.
- Close visual and audio inspection for editing artifacts, lighting and shadow problems, and lip-sync or voice irregularities
- Reverse image searches to find where an image or its parts came from
- Real-world checks of whether the people, places and timeline in the file hold up
What you receive
A clear written report with a screening finding for each file (indicators of AI generation, indicators of editing, no indicators found, or inconclusive) with a confidence level and the evidence behind it, file fingerprints (cryptographic hashes) that document the file's integrity from the time we receive it, and recommended next steps.
Pricing
- One photo: starting at $175
- One video, up to 5 minutes: starting at $350
- One audio recording: starting at $300
- Rush service and multi-file packages are available.
Reviewed by a licensed investigator
AI-assisted tools help us screen faster, but every finding is reviewed by a licensed Louisiana private investigator.
Our reports are investigative screenings, not certified forensic opinions. When a matter requires expert testimony on authenticity, we can refer you to a certified forensic examiner.
Important notes
- Automated detection tools produce probability scores, not determinations. They can miss manipulated media and can flag authentic media, particularly compressed, re-saved or low-quality files. Results depend on the tool version and the file as received. Findings are the investigator's assessment of all checks together and are not a certified forensic opinion.
- Investigative results depend on what information is lawfully available. We do not guarantee any particular finding or outcome.
- We do not accept, open or store intimate images of minors or any material that may be child sexual abuse material, including AI-generated material. Such material is referred to law enforcement.
- Client information is kept confidential. We use third-party tools only with your consent and under terms that do not permit training on your data. We are required by law to report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of vulnerable adults.
Request a screening. Send the original file, not a screenshot, along with a short description of where it came from.
